From Scribble to Statement: The Making of Cascading Gum
Share
A bold, abstract take on the Aussie bush — patterns now available for licensing
This collection began in the most unassuming way with a few quick, hand-drawn sketches while chatting with my mum. I wasn’t thinking too hard, just letting the pen wander. But one of those loose little drawings caught my eye.
It sparked something.
That tiny sketch soon became Cascading Gum Leaves — the hero of what would become a bold, abstract surface pattern collection inspired by the Australian bush. After scanning it in, I reworked the artwork digitally, building layered, overlapping shapes that captured the feeling of falling eucalyptus leaves.
This was the seed of the Cascading Gum Collection — a suite of bold Australian pattern designs ready for product packaging, textiles, and lifestyle brands looking for something fresh and locally inspired.

Hand-drawn, playful and uniquely Australian
I kept chasing that scribbly energy — deconstructing the gum leaves, gumnuts and bush textures I know so well, and reinterpreting them through bold colour and linework. You’ll find a balance of loose, hand-drawn detail with striking, abstract structure — perfect for brands that want surface patterns with personality.

To round out the collection, I created Sketchy Squares — a versatile coordinate full of movement and charm. It’s made entirely of wonky hand-drawn squares, and despite its simplicity, it’s quickly become one of my favourites.
Whether you're a small Australian business or a product-based brand looking for eye-catching textile design, this collection brings something fun and fresh to the table.
From inspiration to product
This collection feels different to my last few — it’s bolder, more abstract, and just plain fun. And I can already see it living beautifully across all kinds of products:
💚 A floaty summer dress in Cascading Gum Leaves
📱 A phone case featuring Sketchy Squares
👶 Reusable swim nappies printed in Gumnut Speckle
🏠 Australian-inspired homewares using Cascading Eucalypt
It’s a great fit for eco-conscious packaging, Australian fashion labels, lifestyle products, kidswear, or brands looking to tell a meaningful design story through pattern.
